About us
Our school reflects a long history of tradition. Many generations of young people have lived and learned with us – thus helping us develop the expertise to help young people on their path to becoming adult members of society. Secondary School students who want to prepare for an apprenticeship are given just as much support as the students attending the Gymnasium, who are preparing for a university education either locally or abroad. Our school is just the right size for getting to know students individually and responding to them on a personal level.
Benedictine life commits us to treating every human being fairly and with regard for his or her own individuality, thus enabling them to take on responsibility for themselves and for others within a community. We also consider ourselves engaged in the lifelong process of learning.
The aim of the educational work at Stiftsschule Engelberg is to comprehensively promote the personal development of the young people entrusted to us and to support them in developing their talents in the best possible way. This can only happen in an atmosphere of appreciation and recognition, esteem and respect. A code of conduct and professional standards support us in finding a consistently professional approach to closeness and distance.
What parents say about the Stiftsschule Engelberg:
Profile
With its Benedictine educational tradition, Engelberg Monastery forms the foundation of the Stiftsschule. We see ourselves as a traditional Christian boarding school with a wide range of modern educational opportunities.
The school and boarding school are open to girls and boys. We see our school with grammar school, secondary school (IOS) and boarding school as a place of learning and living that enables students to take responsibility for themselves and the community.
Our school aims to awaken and promote the intellectual abilities of our students, provide them with a solid foundation of knowledge and encourage them to think independently and ask further questions.
We offer our students level-appropriate support for their academic development. We promote individual performance and meaningful cooperation.
Supervised study at set times is designed to help students complete their schoolwork in a quiet learning atmosphere.
We are convinced that our lives and the world gain meaning through following Christ. Fulfilling life’s purpose also means accepting the tasks that everyday life places before us. This is something we wish to practice by example to the young people at the Stiftsschule Engelberg. It is important to us to create an atmosphere of openness and respect towards people who think differently than we do, towards other religions, and towards other cultures.
