Admission Requirements
In order to be admitted to Stiftsschule Engelberg, students are expected to demonstrate motivation and a readiness to excel – along with the desire and ability to become a part the boarding community. The main language of instruction and everyday life is German, thus making a sufficient knowledge of German a fundamental requirement.
Educational duties can only be met if the parents and guardians of students support the goals of the Stiftsschule and are prepared to work together with us.
Admission Process
After the first contact with the school office of Stiftsschule Engelberg, an admission interview takes place with the school management. Interested girls and boys can then try us out for a few days without obligation.
After completing the registration documents, you will receive a training contract, which you must sign and return. The registration becomes final upon payment of the one-time registration fee of CHF 580 and the deposit of CHF 5,000. The training contract can be terminated at the end of each semester (i.e., end of January and end of July) with a notice period of 4 months. In the event of non-promotion, the contract can be terminated within 10 days of receiving the certificate documents.

Scholarships
Relief scholarships
If the costs incurred exceed the financial circumstances of the parents or legal guardians, it is possible to apply for a relief scholarship. An application must be submitted in advance to the scholarship offices in the canton of residence.
Applications for grants from the Gertrud von Speyr Foundation are assessed by the Foundation Board on the basis of the parents’ or legal guardians’ current tax assessment. All documents must be submitted directly to the Foundation between February 1 and April 30 for the following school year. The applicant’s most recent report card must be sufficient.
Merit scholarships
For students who achieve a grade point average of 5.2 or higher in their graduation certificate, the Foundation will cover CHF 3,000 of the main costs in the following school year.
(NB: In Switzerland grades are awarded on a scale of 1 to 6, with 6 being the highest mark).
Full scholarships
As part of the 900th anniversary of Engelberg Abbey in 2020, the Gertrud von Speyer Foundation will be funding a maximum of five full scholarships over the next few years for suitably qualified young people who lack the financial means. This includes the entire school costs as well as board and lodging at the boarding school. Applicants must attend a Gymnasium or fulfill the admission requirements for the Gymnasium. In the past, they must have distinguished themselves through above-average commitment and a high level of motivation in the school sector and also be committed to the community.
In a letter of application with enclosed CV, they describe their interests, their motivation for entering Stiftsschule Engelberg, any career aspirations and their family situation. In addition, proof of admission to a Gymnasium and the last definitive tax assessment of the parents or legal guardians must be submitted. Applicants whose native language is not German must provide proof of sufficient German language skills.
The complete application documents must be submitted to the Stiftsschule, and the school management will make the allocation.
The Benedictus Foundation grants scholarships for special achievements of a student and on personal application.
Applications must be submitted directly to the Abbot of Engelberg Abbey.
The association awards an annual scholarship of up to CHF 8,000 to a pupil (preferably from French-speaking Switzerland, Ticino or with a mother tongue other than German) on the recommendation of the principal.
In addition to the foundations mentioned above, the cantons also grant scholarships and educational loans.
The scholarships are only awarded to internal students.
