A day full of encounters and insights

First public visiting day at Stiftsschule Engelberg: a successful day of getting to know each other and exchanging ideas

On Friday, 30 January 2026, Stiftsschule Engelberg opened its doors to the public for the first time – and we can look back on a successful and enriching day. In addition to numerous parents of current Stiftsschule students, around twelve families accepted our invitation to get to know everyday school life, the boarding school and the special learning culture at Stiftsschule Engelberg. Although the number of external visitors was manageable, we are very satisfied with the result, as the day was characterized by good conversations, lively encounters and valuable insights.

In the morning, many guests attended lessons in our secondary school classes and gained a direct and authentic impression of learning at Stiftsschule. The atmosphere in the classrooms, the commitment of the students and the exchange with the teachers left a positive and lasting impression on the visitors. Afterwards, the monastery canteen invited guests to lunch together, where further discussions were held in a relaxed atmosphere and the guests were able to exchange ideas with each other.

Visitors were also offered a varied program in the afternoon. In the coffee bar in the east school building, parents and teachers quickly got into conversation. We were particularly pleased with the small information stand of the BIZ Stans, whose careers advisor Lea Burgermeister was on hand to offer advice and answer individual questions. The two information events in the theater hall on the topics of further development of the gymnasiale Matura (WEGM) and International Baccalaureate (IB) met with great interest. In addition to external families, parents of our current students also attended to find out about the upcoming changes to the curriculum and to get an idea of the new options.

The guided tours of the boarding school, which were conducted by internal students, were a particular highlight. The authentic and personal insights they gave the guests were greatly appreciated and showed how lively and community-building life on our campus is. The alumni present from the Alumni Stiftsschule Engelberg association also enriched the day with their experiences. Their personal stories gave the guests a direct and realistic insight into everyday life at Stiftsschule Engelberg – both in the past and today.

Many parents emphasized how important it was for them to hear directly from students, teachers and alumni and thus get a realistic picture of our school. “It was very enriching to get to know Stiftsschule not just through brochures, but through real encounters,” said one mother who attended the day with her daughter.

We would like to thank all guests for their interest and active participation, the students for their open and committed tours and the entire Stiftsschule team for preparing and accompanying this day. Special thanks also go to the alumni Ruth Peterhans and David Baschung as well as the careers advisor from BIZ Stans, Lea Burgermeister, who enriched the day with their contributions. “The visit day showed us how valuable personal exchanges with parents and interested parties are,” emphasizes Head Tobias Barmettler. “We are convinced that such events build an important bridge between our school and the public – and we look forward to offering them regularly in the future.”

If you missed the visit day or would like to find out more about the admission process directly, you can find all the details on our website. After the initial contact with our secretariat, there will be an admissions interview with the school management and a tour of the boarding school and school. Interested girls and boys then have the opportunity to try out the school for a few days without obligation and experience school life at first hand.

We look forward to welcoming you to our next visit day – make a note of 27 January 2027 – or to a personal introductory meeting!
