Experience politics up close – e-ID in focus
The four classes of the Obergymnasium gathered on Thursday, September 4, for the community hour in the theater hall. Manuel Bucher, a former student from Engelberg, moderated a debate on the vote on the introduction of e-ID between the politicians Quentin Zweili (President of the Junge SVP LU) and Dominik Steiner (FDP NW, 2nd Vice President of the Landrat NW). With great skill, he ensured that both had their say and answered the student’s questions calmly and precisely.
The general consensus was that the e-ID was a useful addition. Many students agreed with Dominik Steiner’s argument that the data would be more secure with the state and that only the information required for identification would be transmitted. Quentin Zweili, on the other hand, argued that there could be an indirect compulsion to use an e-ID if certain service providers were to require it in future – as the bill does not explicitly state that the physical ID must still be accepted. After all, the draft law stipulates that an amendment to the law would be necessary to abolish the physical ID.
The fact that the young people remained quietly in their seats even after the bell rang showed just how much the topic was on their minds – until moderator Manuel Bucher officially ended the event and thanked everyone involved.
