Final of the Physics Olympiad

Back at it again – Engelberg Stiftsschule student shines in the final of the Physics Olympiad

On March 7 and 8, 2026, the final of the Swiss Physics Olympiad took place at the Alte Kantonsschule Aarau. 27 young people, who had previously prevailed in two challenging preliminary rounds, competed against each other. Among them was Matthias Wagner, a Stiftsschule student from Engelberg. The five best participants were awarded gold medals.

The road to the final was long: 912 students started the first round in October 2025. Those who make it to the final have to complete almost seven hours of complex exams in one day. But the Olympiad offers more than just intellectual challenges – the experience is also characterized by celebrating together and exchanging ideas after the exams.

The Science Olympiads promote young talents, arouse scientific curiosity and demonstrate: Science is exciting and diverse. Every year, around 10,000 young people take part in eleven different Olympiads – from astronomy, biology and chemistry to computer science, linguistics, mathematics, philosophy, physics, robotics and economics. Workshops, camps and competitions bring science to life.
Behind the Olympiads are young researchers, students and teachers who voluntarily invest countless hours and a great deal of commitment in the national program. The best participants qualify for international competitions and represent Switzerland there.

Congratulations on this impressive success, Matthias! 🎉
