We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of Father Leonhard Kessler. He passed away on the evening of 9 January 2026 after a short illness.

Fr. Leonhard taught physics, mathematics and chemistry at Stiftsschule Engelberg for a total of 45 years. During this long period, he left his mark on numerous students and laid the foundation for many of them in their professional careers. Even after his retirement from regular teaching, he remained closely associated with the Stiftsschule: He stood in for colleagues who were ill and gave extra tuition – much appreciated by the students.

For many years, Fr. Leonhard was also a permanent fixture in the Abbey Choir and enriched the musical life of the monastery.

It is therefore not surprising that many cherished memories and anecdotes have grown up around him, testifying to his professional competence, his dedication and his human warmth. Fr. Leonhard will be gratefully remembered by the Stiftsschule Engelberg and all those who knew him.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday, 14 January, 2026, at 11 a.m. The public is cordially invited to attend. Please find the obituary attached.
