Performance of Mozart’s Requiem on All Souls’ Day
The Engelberg Abbey Choir ventured into Mozart’s last work, his Requiem, for the second time after 2019 as part of a KommKonzert (commented concert).
Thanks to some additional project singers, who sang along eagerly and with commitment, this impressive work could be performed on All Souls’ Day, November 2. Students were also invited to attend the rehearsals outside of their regular music lessons and thus became part of this event. One student and two former students also played in the orchestra.
Mozart’s Requiem is a milestone in music history and the confrontation with the end of life is sooner or later a part of our personal history. Fr. Guido Muff formulated personal comments on this, which profoundly complemented and theologically deepened this performance.
Perhaps this KommKonzert served as a personal memorial to a recently deceased person. Their names could be written down in the large “Book of Life” and the light of the Easter candle shone throughout the concert.
